Klüft rules out return to the heptathlon

Former Olympic champion Carolina Klüft has ruled out a return to the heptathlon at next year’s London Olympics, following her switch to the long and triple jumps.

The 31 year old was asked a news conference before this weekend’s European team championships if she would consider a return to the event in which she won three world and two European championships, as well as Olympic gold.

“No, I will concentrate on the long jump for sure,” she said. “I don’t have the energy or the motivation for the heptathlon.”

Klüft announced recently that the London Olympics would be her last, as she intends to retire at the end of next season.
