New report

Street violence costs society millions

Street violence costs society millions every year, and according to a new report a single fight could cost as much as $11.6 million depending on what injuries those involved sustain.

The report, commissioned by Hjärnkraft, an organisation which works to improve the situation for people who suffer from acquired brain damage, also factored in the cost for loss of income as well as 200 variables.

The final bill for a fight with two people involved where one person sustained minor injuries and the other person is incapacitated for life was 75 million Swedish kronor, or $11.6 million.

“What surprised us is how much it really costs. That one bar fight could cost that much,” economist Ingvar Nilsson, told Swedish Radio News.
