More money for those not receiving sick-leave benefits

After sharp criticism, the Swedish center-right government has announced that it will make an even bigger increase than earlier promised with another  $US 300 a month payment to those people whose sick leave benefits terminate - forcing them to look for work or go on social welfare.

This covers some 5,000 people in the new, limited sick-leave system. The government has been arguing that cuts are necessary to encourage more people to get back to work instead of living off benefits.

However, the Swedish media has been carrying stories of many people asked to look for jobs despite serious illnesses or disabilities - or face loosing much of their income or selling their belongings to be eligible for social welfare.
