Centre Party wants exams marked externally

The Centre Party in Sweden wants to reintroduce external examiners to mark student papers. The party leadership believes that marking exams externally will provide a true picture of students' knowledge.

"It's about guarantees of equal value, to know for sure that one has received a true evaluation of the knowledge one has, because we also use marks as a selection factor to higher education," said Ulrica Carlsson, Education spokesperson for the Centre Party.

Tecahers will still mark exam papers but external examiners will correct them.

The proposal is one part of the Centre Party's new education policy to be decided at a meeting next week.
