planning permission

Woodpecker does not stop Facebook

The huge new server plant, believed to belong to the social media site Facebook, has been given the go-ahead for construction on the peninsula Porsön in Luleå in northern Sweden, the news agency TT reports. A private person had appealed the planning permission, claiming the new plant would risk disturbing the bird life in a nearby nature reserve, where among others the Eurasian Three-toed Woodpecker resides.

But according to the newspaper Norrländska Socialdemokraten, the Land and Environmental Court of Appeal has decided not to review the case, and the district court ruling to allow the building is therefore upheld.
