Shops spray thieves with DNA

Published torsdag 20 oktober 2011 kl 13.15

Shop owners are taking new measures against thieves and robbers, by installing ‘DNA showers.’

A sprinkler system is activated by motion and sprays the person with a special solution containing a particular DNA pattern, reports Swedish Radio News.

Each shop’s DNA is unique, making it easier for police to prove that a suspect was at the premises. It takes three weeks before the liquid breaks down. Although invisible to the naked eye, it shows up blue under an ultraviolet light and can then be tested to ascertain which shop the liquid came from.
