Historic low for Social Dems, poll shows

Support for the Social Democratic party plummeted this week to an historic low of 25.5 percent. Three weeks ago, before the issue of party leader Håkan Juholt’s housing allowance and whether he knowingly claimed more compensation than he was entitled to became known, support was at 35 percent, 10 percentage points higher.

During the same period the Moderate Party became more popular, with the percentage of supporters moving from 28.2 to 34.8, according to a Sifo opinion poll survey published in several Swedish newspapers this morning.

According to the same survey, support for the Sweden Democrats, a right-wing nationalist party, also went up from 3.3 percent to 5.9 percent.

Shifts in support for the remaining parties were marginal.
