Protein causes killer colds

Swedish medical researchers say they have identified a protein in the lungs which causes asthma patients to get more seriously ill and even die of common colds.

The researchers at the University of Lund in southern Sweden add that this protein sparks serious infections in the mucous membrane of the lungs, and that tailor-made medicines could prevent a common cold virus from causing this reaction among asthma patients.
