The Vasa ship in Stockholm.

Wreck could be warship Mars

A shipwreck found outside the Baltic island of Öland this summer could be the Swedish warship Mars, which sank in 1564, reports TV4.

Sweden is famous for having located and salvaged the wreck of the warship Vasa in the bay of Stockholm 50 years ago. The Vasa sunk in 1628 and is now housed in a museum which is one of the capital's main tourism attractions.

The Mars was significantly larger than the Vasa.
