Carema to quit tax haven

It began as a Dagens Nyheter investigative report into the state of elderly care in Sweden. Its findings were disquieting - malnourishment, unnecessary amputations, starvation - all at the hands of a company owned by venture capitalists listed in a tax haven.

This morning, the owners of embattled private care company Carema put an advert in the biggest dailly after a hailstorm of criticism. It reads, "You have sent us a clear signal that a certain kind of taxation system, even though it follows Swedish law, is not appropriate for companies that run elderly care centres."
