Freivalds Encourages Serbian Vote

Sweden’s Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds encouraged Kosovo’s Serbian minority to vote in general elections in the conflict ridden U.N.-run province later this month.

Freivalds said that election participation will give Serbs a say in the province’s affairs.

Laila Freivalds visited Kosovo as part of a tour of the Balkans that included an earlier stop in the former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia and a visit to Serbia on Wednesday.

Kosovo is holding general elections on October 23 amid concerns that the Serbian minority will largely boycott the ballot, citing a lack of security.
