Snus Market Heats Up

A new battle has broken out on the Swedish snus front. 6 private owners of a new company say theyr’e marketing their brand of moiste oral tobacco in 5000 stores - mostly in the big cities and university towns.

They hope to capture as much as 2% of the large Swedish market from the big boys by offering tobacco flavored coffee, orange, licorish, menthol and soon - a brand without any tobacco taste called ’pina colada.’

While Sweden argues that snus is less harmful than smoking cigars or cigareetes, the European Union bans exports to member countries insisting that no new bad habits should be spread to fellow members.
