Swedish Market Court rejects Media Markt

The Swedish Market Court has rejected the electronics chain Media Markt's attempt to sue Elgiganten, one of its main rivals.

Media Markt, which is owned by the German corporate group Metro AG, accused Elgiganten of false advertising for claiming to be "northern Europe's largest electronics and appliances chain".

In its decision, the court justified the rejection by citing that the Supreme Court is due to consider an appeal by Media Markt in a very similar case.

Media Markt was hoping the court would hand Elgiganten a fine of approximately US$ 140,000, half of the amount that Elgiganten may now be tried for in the Supreme Court.
