Peru guerrillas demand ransom for Skanska workers

The guerrillas who have kidnapped workers from Sweden's Skanska are demanding a ransom of US$ 10 million, but the local authorities tell the captives' families that they must be patient and not hope for a speedy release.

Around 36 building workers were seized in Peru on monday by the leftist Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path), while working for Skanska and a Peruvian partner firm.

The Peruvian army and police have surrounded the area where the hostages are thought to be held, and Peru's government has declared that it "does not negotiate with terrorists."
