"Time to Protest" Violence in Falluja

The Swedish government is coming under fire from its own ranks for not making a clear protest against the USA’s bombing of al-Falluja.

Mariam Osman Sherifay from the Social Democrats said in Parliament on Tuesday that, ”It is time to protest.”

Left Party leader, Lars Ohly says that Sweden’s silence makes it an accomplice to violence against civilians in Iraq.  Ohly said the Swedish Foreign Minister takes America’s word for what is happening in Falluja, which he compares to relying on assurances made by Cuba’s government that the country is democratic.

Leila Freivalds, Sweden’s Foreign Minister said it is not true that Sweden has not protested violence carried out by the coalition forces.  She says the government has demanded that the coalition be held accountable and she says an investigation is ongoing.
