Car inspectors on strike

A strike started at 4:00 PM Wednesday against Svensk Bilprovning, the state company that conducts annual vehicle tests. The conflict affects one-third of the inspection stations. Negotiations between the trade union and the employers organisation will resume on Thursday.

Also on Wednesday, a labour conflict at Swedish public broadcasting was avoided just one hour before the strike deadline, when negotiators for the Unionen trade union reached agreement with Almega, representing Swedish Television and Swedish Radio.

Covering non-journalists at the two companies, the one year agreement provides for a 2.6 pay increase, including a guarantee that all employees receive at least 300 kronor (around 45 US dollars) a month more.
