Strike by the motor vehicle inspection called off

Sweden's motor-inspectors, who have been on strike since Wednesday, called their action off after Unionen, their union, and the employers' group Almega reached an agreement late on Friday.

The agreement will raise salaries by 2.6 percent and guarantee a wage increase of $US 31.

"We are very happy," Unionen's press secretary Louise Gerdemo Holmgren told Swedish Radio News.

The agreement grants Almega the right to hire PhD-students for temporary positions.
