Sweden lost 7-3 to Russia in Friday night's big game in the ice hockey world championship preliminary round in Stockholm. The heavy defeat means Sweden lose top spot in Group S.

Yevgeni Malkin scored a hat-trick for the Russians as Sweden collapsed in the third-period, letting in four goals, having earlier gone into a 3-1 lead. Russia now have five wins from five games.

Co-hosts Finland were also beaten, losing 5-3 to Canada in Helsinki.
