Christian Olsson won gold at all the major championships

Sweden's Olympic gold medal winning triple jumper Christian Olsson has announced his retirement from the sport.

The 32-year-old released a statement calling time on his glittering career due to a succession of injuries.

Christian Olsson was forced to break off training with the Swedish olympic troop in San Diego last week because of an injury to his right foot. He flew back to his native Gothenburg for treatment.

Olsson has won European, World and Olympic gold and broke the Swedish and World record in the triple jump when he leapt 17.79 metres in 2004.
