Risk of floods in the north

As the Sangisälven, or the Sangis River, in the northern county of Norrbotten rises and rain is expected Thursday, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute has issued a class 2 warning for very high water levels with a risk of flooding.

The water level is predicted to peak over the weekend. Class two warning means possible danger to the public, sizeable material damage and disruptions to important community functions.

On Friday, high water levels are also expected for the Byskeälven in Västerbotten, along with other small and medium-sized waterways where snow is melting. Emergency services in six inland municipalities are warning that water levels are above normal for this time of year.
