Cruise ship bound for Sweden collides with crane

A Stena Line cruise ship travelling to Karlskrona from the Polish harbor city of Gdynia crashed into a giant crane Thursday morning as it left the port. Three dockworkers were injured, two of them seriously, and taken to the hospital, according to the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet.

None of the 120 passengers or 49 crew members were physically hurt, according to Jesper Waltersson, a spokesperson for the Stena Line.

Waltersson tells news agency TT that it is still unclear exactly why the accident occurred.

The ship is heavily booked ahead of the European Football Championship, which starts in early June. Stena's classificiation society, Lloyd's, assessed the damage on Thursday and approved the ship for further operations, according to Waltersson.
