Hundreds evacuated from hotel fire

About 350 guests were evacuated from a fire in the Scandic Backadal Hotel in Gothenburg in the middle of the night Friday.

A fire in the hotel kitchen was reported at 3 a.m. Firefighters from three stations were called to the scene to put out the blaze.

Anders Gärdhagen, the alarm operator, told Swedish Radio in Gothenburg that the fire started in a kitchen wall after an electrical glitch and that the fire was put out quickly.

Emergency services were prepared to arrange for buses to drive guests to other hotels, but this measure was not needed.

No one was hurt in the fire, reports Swedish Radio in Gothenburg.
