Oskarshamn nuclear reactor shield damaged

The oldest reactor at the Oskarshamn nuclear power station in south east Sweden is damaged, according to OKG, the company which runs the plant.

The damage was found during a test on a protective shield around the reactor, reports Swedish Radio Kalmar. The discovery is expected to cause delays in re-starting the reactor which is currently shut down for an annual service.

“Damage to the shield does not pose any risk for the fuel rods,” wrote OKG in a press release.
