Coolest day in 84 years welcomes Clinton

Published söndag 3 juni 2012 kl 10.52

On Saturday, temperatures in Stockholm never inched past the plus 6 degrees Celcius mark. As marathon runners braved the rain and wind, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in the Swedish capital on the coolest June day recorded for the past 84 years.

"It's in rather big contrast to the heat we experienced earlier this spring," says Met Office meteorologist Lovisa Andersson to the news agency TT.

Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, who along with his wife, the EU parliamentarian Anna Maria Corazza Bildt, welcomed Clinton at Arlanda airport on Saturday evening, commented on the unseasonable chill on his blog this weekend.

"We'll have to compensate with the warmth in our relationship to Hillary Clinton as she visits us today," he wrote.

He and Clinton took a boat this morning out into the Stockholm archipelago, where they will pick up Defence Minister Karin Enström on the way.
