Ericsson predicts huge increase in mobile broadband

Sweden’s Ericsson forecasts a major increase in mobile broadband in the near future. In its second ever Traffic and Market Report, looking ahead five years Ericsson says 85 percent of the world's population covered by high-speed mobile Internet.

The report also predicts that in 2017, 50 percent of the world's population will be covered by 4G, smartphone subscriptions are expected to reach 3 billion, and global data traffic will grow by 15 times by the end of that year.

Ericsson, the world’s biggest maker of wireless network equipment, says mobile subscriptions reached 6.2 billion in the first quarter of 2012 and 170 million new mobile subscriptions were added during the quarter.
