Liberals: "Move, or lose state benefits"

Newly arrived immigrants could be forced to move to a different part of the country to get a job, and if they do not go, they could lose out on state benefits, according to new proposals from the Liberal Party.

The party also wants to make it easier for immigrants to go to Swedish classes in evenings and over the summer, saying learning the language is key to successful integration into Swedish society.

The eight point plan would also mean that anyone hoping to become a Swedish citizen would first have to pass a proficiency language test.

This is not the first time the Liberals have presented such proposals, with similar plans being published back in the election campaign of 2002, which many attribute to the party's best election result for years. However, none of the other three centre-right government parties have given the Liberal plans their support, meaning they are not yet government policy.
