One man died and several were injured in Malmö after a driver, fleeing the scene of a car accident during rush hour, tried to out run police in a wild car chase through the city, police say.

"A car fled from the accident scene and was near to running over a police officer," says Calle Persson, a police officer with Skåne police, to news agency TT.

The driver of the car, a man, hit both a cyclist and a pedestrain, before police managed to ram the car off the road. Police arrested the man and are having him tested to see if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Several police cars were involved in the dramatic chase. A number of streets in downtown Malmö have been cordoned off.
