19-year-old beef sold as new in Sweden

Canned beef produced in 1993 for Sweden's Cold War stocks of food were for sale here as late as 2009, reports the daily newspaper Svenska Dagbladet (SvD).

The tins were originally sold off as the country dismantled its emergency reserves and some of them reached Poland, where tests showed the meat was turning rancid.

SvD now reveals 20,000 tins were being relabelled for sale in Stockholm.
