climate benefits doubtful

Biogas dismissed as economic alternative

The newspaper Dagens Industri says a new report questions the use of biogas as a fuel alternative for automobiles.

The report, written by Per Kågeson of the Center for Transport Studies and Lin Johnsson of the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute, says sales of cars that use biogas have increased dramatically in recent years.

But, the authors say, the costs are too high and the climate benefits are doubtful.

This, they write, is because supplies of biogas are too limited, and cars using the fuel cost on the average more than US$ 5000 more than conventional gasoline vehicles.
