Alcohol confiscated by the police in Västernorrland
contaminates the water supply

Police stopped from dumping alcohol

Swedish Radio News reports that the county authorities in Västra Götland has banned the local police from pouring confiscated alcohol down the drain. Because more and more liquor, wine, and beer have been confiscated by the police in recent years, they say there is a risk it might affect the water supply.

Swedish Radio News reports from a recycling station in Strömstad, where around 5000 confiscated beer cans are being crushed, and the metal recycled. But the beer is just washed down the drains.

One suggestion to solve the problem is that the alcohol be used to make biogas.
