Local police had been following the suspect for several days when he tried to set a café on fire. He was then placed under arrest.
"He moved around buildings and other places, which strengthened our suspicions," says the police's Mikael Björk, who heads the investigation. "He walked around in the middle of the night and looked at a famous old house in Ystad."
Fires struck golf and tennis clubs in Ystad earlier in July and the police suspect there may be a connection between those two fires.
But the man being held can only be linked to the crime scene he was arrested at, the police said Monday.
