Teaching, high status or low?

4:02 min

The negotiations between Sweden teachers and their employers broke down earlier this summer. The teachers' union wanted 10,000 kronor extra per month for teachers - that's about US$ 1,200 - and says the deal offered to them isn't enough.

They also say that the current situation risks plunging Sweden into a serious school crisis, and raise the issue of whether teaching should be a high status profession as in neighboring Finland, or remain a less attractive lower status job here, with lower pay.
