OAS calls crisis meeting over Assange

The Organization for American States, OAS, called a crisis meeting to discuss the situation between Ecuador and the United Kingdom, in the wake of Ecuador's decision to grant Wikileaks founder Julian Assange asylum, Swedish Radio News reports.

The reason for granting Assange asylum for "political persecution" was so that he would not be extradited to Sweden, where he has been wanted for questioning since December 2010 for sex crime allegations.

According to the OAS, the meeting was to take place in Washington, D.C. Thursday afternoon local time.
