Swede leaves the pitch for good

Ljungberg retires

Swedish football player Fredrik Ljungberg has decided to end his football career, reports tabloid Expressen.

The 35-year-old is one of Sweden's best players and has achieved international success playing for British club Arsenal and most recently, for Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse.

He has played for Sweden in five international and European championships.

While visiting Kiev during the European football championships earlier this summer, Ljungberg had hinted that he was thinking about winding up his career.

Now, according to Expressen, he has confirmed that he will retire.

Ljungberg recently told the newspaper Dagens Industri that he had started a real estate company with two Englishmen.
