Diet craze leads to cottage cheese shortage

The popularity of dieting methods recommending high levels of cottage cheese consumption has led to a shortage of the product in Swedish grocery stores.

Cottage cheese is a staple for followers of the Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) and Glycemic Index (GI) diets.

The dairy giant Arla’s factory in Skövde in the west of Sweden has not been able to keep up with the demand, reports Swedish Radio.

According to Arla, cottage cheese consumption in Sweden increased by 15 percent last year. The company is now planning to invest in new machinery in order to catch up by January, when demand for cottage cheese peaks.
