Court of appeals reduces life sentence

Bayonet murderer's sentence down to 17 years

A 46-year-old man convicted of stabbing his former partner to death in front of their two daughters had his sentence reduced by the court of appeals on Monday to 17 years in prison. He had previously received a life sentence.

The man, who was at first given custody of the children after separating from his partner, had been banned from seeing his daughters after locking his former partner in his flat.

He later tracked the mother down in central Malmö and stabbed her to death in an argument over who should have to look after the children.
