Sweden Democrat leaves the party in protest

Kent Jansson, a councillor for the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats in Tidaholm, is leaving the party in protest. Jansson says he is critical that three Sweden Democrat politicians have been allowed to remain in the party after the tabloid Expressen published film footage of a brawl in 2010, reports news agency TT.

"I cannot sit for a party with senior representatives calling people nigger, whore and arming themselves with iron rods. It is so distasteful. It does not help that people take them in defense," he tells the magazine Expo.

However, according to Martin Kinnunen, press officer with the Sweden Democrats, Jansson mentioned nothing about the films when he announced his decision to the party district.

"He wanted 6,000 SEK immediately to buy a computer and was told that he should send his request to the Board. Then he decided to leave. When Expo asks, he has a different explanation", says Kinnunen to TT.
