Longer days for boys in daycare

Boys spend more time in Swedish daycare centres than girls, according to a new investigation by Swedish Radio.

On average boys are away from home two and a half hours longer each week than girls. In some areas, such as Norrtälje, on the east coast, the difference is six hours.

It is unclear why the difference exists but education lecturer Mia Heikkilä tells Swedish Radio that parents may take more care with girls and believe boys can handle more.

Swedish Radio news program Ekot calculated the difference using the weekly schedules of 9,500 pre-school children under six years of age in different parts of the country
