Police bemoan helicopter problem

Police in southern Sweden have expressed their frustration that they could not get hold of a helicopter to fly over the site of a huge motorway pile-up last month, even though media companies could.

The police helicopter, based in Gothenburg, had trouble taking off, due to weather conditions. Helicopters hired by TV stations had no such problems, according to Swedish Televisions Sydnytt local news programme.

One person died and over seventy vehicles were involved in the pile-up, close to Helsingborg.

Local police in Skåne do not currently have their own helicopter, but have to borrow one from Gothenburg, several hundred kilometres away.
