"Precautionary" recall of Coop meatballs

The retail cooperative Coop has recalled meatballs under its own brand “X-tra”. This follows tests showed some horse meat in meatballs from the same producer Öresundschark, distributed by the rival Axfood.

The recall involves 1 kg packages of “X-tra färska Stekta kötbullar” with the best-by dates of March 3 or earlier.

Coop’s press spokesperson Christina Kullgren tells the TT news agency the move is precautionary, as the recalled product has not been tested yet.

Öresundschark also makes meatballs under the Ica Basic brand. Ica’s tests Wednesday did not find any traces of horse meat in that product.
