Sweden’s Abeba Aregwai won the gold medal for the 1,500 metres at the
European indoor championships in Gothenburg on Saturday completing
the race in 4.04,48, the second fastest time ever recorded.

“It feels good,” the runner, draped in the Swedish flag told Swedish
Television. “It was great when everyone was cheering for me – it made
me happy.”

Abeba who competed for Ethiopia until last last year when she became
a Swedish national, took command of the race from the outset, leaving
the other competitors, including the world record holder Jelena Soboleva,
200 metres behind her after the second lap.
