Justice minister criticises violent crime sentences

Sweden's justice minister says that the courts are not obeying the government's call for tougher sentences for violent crime.

In today's Dagens Nyheter minister Beatrice Ask says that since 2010 courts should be looking at whether a crime included a serious attack on someone's life of health. Se says that some tougher sentences followed, but then returned to their old level.

But expert Charlotta Lindström at the Swedish Council for Crime Prevention says that it is still too early to draw any conclusions about the impact of the 2010 reform.
