Switzerland is closer to buying Sweden's Gripen warplanes, after a vote today. The Swiss Council of States voted yes, by 22 to 20.

But so far there is no money allocated for the purchase. The Council voted in favour of spending the over SEK 21 billion to buy the planes, but the majority was not large enough to authorise the payment.

The issue will now be considered by Switzerland's second chamber, the National Council.
