Swedish hockey stars feature on postage stamps

Sweden's ice hockey heroes are to be celebrated in a series of postage stamps marking the run-up to the sport's world cup that will be held in Sweden and Nordic neighbour Finland in May.

Swedish Television reports that household names such as Börje Salming, Jörgen Jönsson, Nicklas Lidström and Henrik Lundqvist will be among those to feature in the series of nine stamps that will go on sale this Thursday.

It's not the first time Sweden's postal service has cheered on the country's ice hockey team; Swedish hockey icon Peter Forsberg featured in a set of stamps that showed his penalty goal in the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics.

The Ice Hockey World Cup runs from May 3 to 19, and will be joint-hosted by Sweden and arch ice hockey rivals Finland.
