Sweden's military has requested the government consider granting asylum to Afghans who have worked as interpreters for the Swedish armed forces in Afghanistan.

According to Swedish news agency TT, the written request argues that Afghan civilians working with Swedish forces will become targets for attack once Sweden withdraws its troops from the country in 2014.

Afghan interpreters fear reprisals after international forces leave, and several requested asylum to Sweden last summer.
