Elderly death took ten days to reach relatives

Published lördag 16 mars 2013 kl 16.15

Relatives of a 96-year-old woman who died in a care home operated by private health care company Carema in southern Sweden did not find out about the death until ten days after, when the funeral parlour rang, reports news agency TT.

Carema says the care home informed the woman's custodian of her death, and tried but failed to reach the woman's next of kin.

"It has been a complex situation that we cannot go into for reasons of privacy," writes Susanne Bodin Eklöf, head of communications at Carema Care, in an email to the news agency.
