Savings boom during economic slowdown

Household saving doubled in Sweden last year compared to the year before, according to new figures from Statistics Sweden.

Swedes saved a total of SEK 153 billion in 2012. In 2011, they had put away a total of SEK 76 billion.

Statistics Sweden say increased levels of household saving often coincide with lower levels of economic growth.
