Ambulance refused to help young asylum-seeker

The ambulance unit in Gävleborg County is investigating an incident involving a 16-year-old boy, who was refused an ambulance after jumping out of a window six meters from the street.

The boy jumped from the window after having his application for asylum denied, according to Arbetarbladet newspaper.

The police report, made two months ago, says that emergency personnel refused to take the boy to the hospital. Instead, police drove him to the emergency room.

"This is really serious. We are going to investigate what happened," says Jörgen Tranevik, the head of the ambulance unit in Gävleborg County, to Swedish Radio news.

The boy had no physical injuries, but was extremely cold because he had sat on the ledge of the open window in the freezing cold.
