Politican steps down after threatening Billström

Published lördag 23 mars 2013 kl 10.49

A local leader for the youth association of the Left Party has been forced to resign after he tweeted a death threat to Tobias Billström, Sweden’s Migration Minister, reports the tabloid Aftonbladet.

On 11 March, the local leader wrote on his twitter account that, “I want to shoot Tobias Billström. I’m really going to be happy the day he dies. From the bottom of my heart, I really mean it".

The leadership committee of the Left Party youth association met Friday afternoon to discuss the matter.

“We’ve encouraged him to leave his post and issue a public apology. I’ve been in contact with him and he accepts that,” Hanna Cederin, a secretary for the youth wing of the Left Party, told Aftonbladet.

The leader apologized today. “I understand that this is dangerous and I’m leaving my post immediately,” he wrote.
