Transport agency bans car-deck ferry party

One of Viking Line's flagship ferries, MS Cinderella, has lost its license to use its car deck for parties and events. Permission was given by the Swedish Transport Agency in 2006 but now the license has been withdrawn following an inspection last month.

"The car deck is not built for passengers to be there during a trip," says Transport Agency Inspector Martin Lundberg to Swedish Radio News.

At a dance band week in February, emergency exits were approved for about 100 people, not the 500 to 600 people who were there according to witnesses, reports Swedish Radio channel P3.

Martin Lundberg cannot say why the Transport Agency's assessment is now different from when the authorization was issued in 2006.
